Jason Holzworth

My studio is located in Mellwood Art Center. There, I am surrounded by photographers and other artists. One being Jason Holzworht. We chat frequently about things going on around mellwood as well as collaborating. Today we did just that. I grabbed my go to model and got things going. I had used her ealier in the week, so this time we changed up her look. Enjoy the behind the scene pictures and videos. If you have an questions about the makeup, feel free to write! video video

Gustavo

Today was awesome. Thanks to Facebook, the BEST networking site EVER I got to work with a new photographer. Well, he isn't new but he is new to me! He drove and hour and a half to shoot with me. I called two of my favorite clients Jessa (my mini me) and Laura ( A classic beauty). I wanted two totally different girls and two totally different looks. Gustavo delivered. I was hoping to get a good shot for my website and I think I got just that! Here are a few pics of Jessa right after I finished her hair and makeup along with two sneak peaks! Enjoy! I will be posting a behind the scene video of Jessa tomorrow. Stay tuned. If you have any questions about either look, leave your question as a comment. video video

Perfect Eyebrows

Powder
Cream Liner

Hi Katye,
Love your web site and blog, lots of useful info. Hope to be katye made soon as I am south of Louisville! My question is about eye brows, I have never used a brow pencil or cream or anything to define my brows, but now am curious about the 411 on brows. My brows also seems to stop short (naturally). What are some great brow products and how can I pull the brow out longer without that fake looking line....

There are many avenues to explore when it comes to brows. One way I do NOT recommend is a hard pencil. What looks natural about a harsh line? NOTHING!!! I suggest a powder or cream liner.

As far as length. You can always extend your brows with the product. One way to determine where your brows should begin and end is to line a pencil or makeup brush going vertical along side your nose to your forehead. Where the pencil is on your brow line is where your brow should start. Now, slide the pencil or brush at a diagonal and that is where your arch should be. Next, slide is to the edge of your eye (keeping the bottom of the brush still against your nose) to find where your brow should end.

The powder I use is by MAC. Use with a small angled brush.
Powder is the softest option. It also looks the most natural.

My favorite is cream liner. I use Smashbox. Cream liners are to be used with the same type of brush. I feel I have more control and can make more details with the cream.

Runny Liner?

Hi I use MAC smolder pencil eyeliner, once placed on the water line how can I keep it from running down my under eyes? I constantly have to be wiping it. what kind do you use on your clients that make them and yourself look so flawless?

I am NOT a fan of pencil liner. In fact, as much as I LOVE MAC I've never tried their pencil liner. My liner of choice is called "fluidline". Fluidline is a cream liner. You will need a small liner brush for application. The best thing about fluid line is not only does it last all day BUT you can also use in in place of liquid liner. Being made of cream, ensures easy application! Fluidline comes in a variety of colors. My favorites are black (black track)and aqua. You can purchase fluidline at MAC. MAC in Louisville is located in Macy's in Oxmoor mall. It retails for $14.99.

Age is only a number & you don't have to look it!

I recently had a reader e-mail me with this question...
"I'm almost 25 and beginning to get fine lines, however I still get blemishes! Is there a good way to cure or disguise both of these problems at the same time??

Well.. My advice would be to start with taking precautions to eliminate early aging.
Use a sp4 moisturizer and/or foundation. Remove all makeup at night and apply cold creams. Cold cream is what I use to remove my makeup. A trick I have discovered is, leaving the cold cream in the refrigerator!!! It feels SO nice to remove your makeup at the end of the night with a burst of cold on tired eyes! Especially if you're like me and wear false lashes way too much. Try it you wont be sorry!I also like to moisturize with it in the morning..The cold helps get rid of tired puffy eyes. My cold cream of choice is Ponds cold cream You can find it at any drug store or places like Target. It's very affordable.
Now, as far as blemishes. I suggest using a mineral powder instead of a heavy foundation. I do NOT suggest using foundations of either kind on your entire face. Only on blemishes or any place with redness. After all, foundation can cause blemishes!
When it comes to comes to mineral foundation, I used to prefer bare minerals. Once I was in need of mineral foundation on short notice. I had no choice but to go to the drug store. The closet thing I could find was L'oreal True Match foundation. I actually like it BETTER!
I will warn you, you should have your own fluffy powder brush..that packaging is terrible. The product is great.

No once can stop the inevitable but we sure can hide it :)

This blog is being inspired by the number one question I get asked."what color gloss are you wearing?" I have one colored gloss that I love more than ANY other gloss. Its orgasm by by NARS. It's more expensive than drug store gloss. It's around $25.00 for one tube BUT it's is VERY worth the investment. It's a universal color. I use it on models for fashion shows ALL the time. Great on all skin colors. NARS is a high end cosmetic brand which means the glosses aren't greasy or sticky. They are smooth, shiny, with a hint of metallic (in a good way) and they actually last. I am wearing orgasm in the picture. Not the best picture..I'm aware but it shows the gloss more true to life than any other picture I have. Orgasm is a peachish pink.. In my opinion it should be called HEAVEN! You can pick it up at Sephora. www.sephora.com

Here is a picture of the spray tan I referred to.
